Gustav Fredrik Lange ( Norwegian Gustav Fredrik Lange ; February 22, 1861 , Fredrickshall near Halden - February 11, 1939 , Oslo ) - Norwegian musicologist , composer , violinist , conductor and music teacher , “one of the central figures in musical life of Norway in the 1900s ” [3] .

Biography
He began to study the violin in Halden with the head of the local military band. In 1878 - 1883 he studied in Stockholm (in particular, with Karl Johan Lindberg ), then in Paris with Hubert Leonard and in Berlin with Emil Sora .
Since 1890 - the first violin in the orchestra of the Christiania Theater, then since 1899 - accompanist of the National Theater. With the foundation of the Orchestra of the Philharmonic Society in Oslo in 1919, he took the place of the second accompanist (until 1927 ), worked with him also as a conductor. In 1899 - 1906 he led the string quartet. From 1889 until the end of his life he taught at the Oslo Conservatory , where among his students were many prominent Norwegian musicians; published textbooks of harmony ( 1897 , 5th edition - 1935 ) and violin playing ( 1899 ). The author of various chamber compositions, mainly for violin and piano, using folk motifs. A holder of several awards, including the Swedish medal of honor Litteris et Artibus .
