Geography
Nadi is located on the west coast of the island of Viti Levu . From the east it is washed by the Nandi River. The area of the city is 7.8 km². Divided into three administrative regions:
- Nandi;
- Martinart
- Namaka. [one]
History
The city was founded in 1947 . In 1972, a system of local government was introduced in Nandi. [2]
Population
According to the 2007 census , 11,871 people lived in the city, making it the fourth largest city in Fiji. The ethnic composition of Nandi is multinational: both Fijians and Indians , who make up the majority of the population of Fiji, and numerous foreigners live in it.
Nandi is the center of Hinduism and Islam in Fiji. The city has the largest Hindu temple in the southern hemisphere - the Sri Siva-Subramaniya temple ( English Sri Siva Subramaniya temple ). [3]
The city is served by the Nadi International Airport , which is located about 9 km from the center of Nadi. It is the largest airport in Fiji.
Economics
The city is the center of the agricultural region. The main industry is food (primarily the production of sugar from sugar cane ). A significant share of the Nandi budget is also made up of tourism revenues.
