Biography
Edgar Elbakyan was born in 1928 in the city of Tbilisi in the family of a teacher.
In 1946, after graduating from high school, he moved to Yerevan and entered the acting department of the theatrical institute , which he successfully graduated from in 1950. In the same year he went to work in the theater of the young audience. In those years, they played many significant roles: Pavel Korchagin - “How the steel was tempered”, Khlestakov - “The Inspector-General”, Cardinal Richelieu - “The Three Musketeers”.
In 1962, Elbakyan was invited to the State Academic Theater. G. Sundukyan , where he created the images of Giko - “Pepo”, Tarelkin - “Judicial Case”, Pailaka (judge) - “Bagdasar divorces his wife” entered the gallery of eternal values of Armenian performing arts. Edgar Elbakyan’s stage skills have earned the highest praise from both the general public and artists.
In 1978 he was awarded the title of People's Artist of the Armenian SSR, and in 1979 he was awarded the State. Armenian SSR Prize.
Edgar Elbakyan was widely known and popular both in Armenia and abroad. The roles he played deserved attention above all by the sharpness of the embodiment of the image, the realistic interpretation of the multi-genre performance of dramatic, comic, characteristic characters.
