The list of the UNESCO World Heritage Site in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland for 2017 includes 31 items, which is 2.8% of the total (1121 for 2019). Among them, 26 objects are included in the list according to cultural criteria, and 12 of them are recognized as “masterpieces of human genius” ( criterion i); 4 objects are included according to natural criteria (three are recognized as “a natural phenomenon of exceptional beauty and aesthetic importance” - criterion vii), and 1 is included as a mixed object (also has criterion vii).
In addition, as of 2017, 11 sites in the UK are among the candidates for inclusion in the World Heritage List [1] .
The United Kingdom ratified the Convention for the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage on May 29, 1984 [2] . The first five sites located in the UK were listed in 1986 at the 10th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee .
