History

The birthplace of musicians is the city of Bergen . Not lagging behind the peer groups that appeared on the Norwegian stage at the same time, the Aeternus musicians began their musical journey with black metal.

After releasing one Walk My Path to their strength, the group attracted the attention of a small Czech label View Beyond, on which in 1995 the debut mini-album Dark Sorcery saw the light, which resonated in the underground of that time.

The group is awarded a contract by the Dutch firm Hammerheart Prods, a young but rapidly growing office. The group at the time includes: Ares (Ronny Hovland) - vocals, guitar; Morrigan (Nicola Trier) - bass, keyboards; Vrolok (Erik Haggernes) - drums. In such a composition was recorded debut album Beyond The Wandering Moon, published in 1997 . After the release of this album and the consolidation of the authority of the group, Ares leaves his second band Gorgoroth, in order to focus on Aeternus. Vrolok, who was also part of Gorgoroth, leaves a year later.

In 1998, the second album was released ... And So The Night Became, which brings the group among the most authoritative bands in their style. Active concert activity is marked by tours with such underground values as Deicide, Limbonic Art, Behemoth, Cannibal Corpse, Emperor, etc.

In 1999, Morrigan joined the session keyboardist as an Obtained Enslavement project, led by a former Gorgoroth vocalist named Pest (Thomas Kronenes) .

The year 2000 becomes the turning point of the group's style. The Shadows Of Old album, released this year, showed a tangible Aeternus list in the direction of death metal, both in the compositional structure and stylistically. The second guitarist Radek (Radomir Michael Nemec), originally from Poland, joins the band to give a richer sound. Released in 2001 and 2003, Ascension Of Terror and Darker Monument strengthened the position of the group as part of its sound, which the musicians themselves describe as True Dark Metal. The latest album so far is HeXaeon (2006). On this album, there is a tendency of musicians to greater musical conciseness, but the brand trademark Aeternus - a dark, heavy atmosphere with intense riffing and death gashes - remains unchanged.

Since the release of the last album, Aeternus has gone through repeated lineup changes. At the moment, preparations are underway for the release of the long-awaited album "And Seventh His Soul Detesteth". The band is also preparing to play an exclusive concert in Holland on May 19, 2012, where only songs from the first two cult albums will be performed.

In March 2013, a new album was released, called "... And The Seventh His Soul Detesteth", which features a new round of team development. They strengthened their death metal backbone without losing their original melodic handwriting. In support of the new album, there were performances at festivals in Dresden and Oslo.

Since autumn 2017, the group is in the Earshot studio with producer Björnar Nielsen (Vulture Industries, Sulfur, Deathcon, Enslaved), recording a new album, which is scheduled to be released in mid-2018. Also, musicians are preparing a special concert program dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the team.
