The country of Brontë ( English Brontë Country ) - the unofficial name of the area in the west of Leeds and Bradford ( West Yorkshire , England ), derived from the names of the famous 19th-century Yorkshire writers who lived here - the sisters Charlotte , Emily and Anne Bronte .
Geologically, the region consists mainly of coarse-grained sandstone ; the landscape is hilly, uneven.
The country of Bronte includes the village of the Bronte sisters - Hoert , which now houses the museum dedicated to them . An abandoned farm called Top Wizins, considered the prototype of Wuthering Heights in the eponymous work of Emily Bronte, is located half a kilometer from Stanbury. The house in Thornton , where the sisters were born and their brother Brenwell Bronte , has survived to this day and is open to tourists. The Bronte Country includes Oakwell Hall, Wycoller Hall (Fieldhead and Ferndin prototypes in Charlotte Bronte’s novels “ Shirley ” and “Jane Eyre”), Oksenhope , Red House and other attractions.
