Saint Acarius was a bishop in the diocese of Noyon and Doornick ( Tournai ), located in the territories of modern France and Belgium . Around the year 594, he studied with St. Columban .
The day of the election of Akarius to the episcopal chair is unknown: for the first time in historical sources he is mentioned as a bishop in 627 . He was a fervent follower of Saint Amand , but, despite his influence, he could not prevent the king of the Franks, Dagobert I, from driving out the latter.
Acarius died in 639 or 640. His successor in the diocese of Noyon-Tourne was the holy Eligius .
