History and Celebration

Radio amateur day is celebrated by radio enthusiasts in more than one hundred and fifty countries of the world, but it is most widely celebrated in the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU).

The date for "Amateur Radio Day" was not chosen by chance. On this day, April 18, in 1925 , in the capital of France, the city of Paris , radio enthusiasts created the " International Amateur Radio Union ", designed to unite all people involved in amateur radio communications , which at that time was considered something fantastic [2] . In 2005, in his congratulations on a related holiday, a deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation , a member of the committee on energy, transport and communications, Galichanin E.N. spoke of amateur radio enthusiasts and their hobbies :

“Both in past years, and now radio enthusiasts have been and remain the soul and driving force of radio. Their enthusiasm, dedication and dedication are the key to further achievements of the radio ” [3] .

The Russian Amateur Radio Union was created on October 18, 1992 , and already in 1994 it entered the International Amateur Radio Union and began to celebrate this date with it.

Every year, World Amateur Radio Day is celebrated under a new motto. So, for example, in 2007 the motto of the holiday was the slogan “Expanding the world of radio communications” [4] . In 2013, the holiday is dedicated to the centenary of the first use of amateur radio in an emergency. [five]
