Plasticine animation

Plasticine animation - a type of animation . The term claymation is patented by the Will Winton Association in Oregon . Films are made by frame-by-frame shooting of plasticine objects with modification (of these objects) in the intervals between frames.

Alexander Tatarsky , Harry Bardin , Nick Park , Sergey Merinov , Jiri Barta worked in the genre of plasticine animation (Golem, 2006).
A large role in the history of plasticine animation was played by Aardman Animations .

There are several techniques in plasticine animation:

  • relocation : the composition consists of several layers of characters and decorations, which are located on several glasses located one above the other, the camera is located vertically above the glasses. Characters and scenery for this type of animation are made of a special, flat shape. Currently, the layers are removed separately and combined with computer editing. This type of animation is used to conveniently animate characters. In this technique, the animated film “ Last year's snow fell ” was shot.
  • volumetric animation : classic plasticine animation, similar in principle to puppet animation - volumetric, “real” characters are located in volumetric decoration. Work in this technique is much more difficult, because the characters have to be animated in space; they must be specially strengthened in the decoration, sometimes using additional supports and pendants.
  • combined animation : characters are animated separately and shot against a blue screen , after which they are “implanted” in separately removed plasticine decorations . In this type of plasticine animation, the bulk of the work falls not on working with plasticine, but on working with a computer.
