History
2002-2006
In March 2002, the second-generation CLK-class lightweight compact coupe replaced the Mercedes-Benz W208 . The new car was based on the Mercedes-Benz W203 C-Class platform, which also had a similar modification and was assembled on a similar platform - the 3-door Sport Coupe hatchback. Production was established at a plant in Bremen , Germany, where about 300 million euros were invested [4] . The model range of Mercedes-Benz W209 engines consisted of both gasoline ICEs and diesel engines of various configurations. The most serious technical novelty, which was first introduced with the advent of this model, was a 1.8-liter engine equipped with a direct injection of gasoline into the combustion chambers [5] . This is the first Mercedes-Benz engine of this type.
In March 2003, a cabriolet modification ( A209 ) made its debut at the Spring Salon in Geneva .
The 2004 car was the last in the history of the Mercedes-Benz brand, on which a multimedia system was installed, switched using a D2B optical cable (from the English Digital Data Bus ), presented about 10 years ago. In the same year, the CLK DTM AMG racing version was introduced.. The coupe lost almost the entire trim - you could even order sports buckets with a fixed back. The body panels were replaced with lighter and wider ones to cover the protruding wheels - the track was increased by 66 millimeters in front and 75 millimeters in the rear [2] .
2006—2009
In 2005, the car has undergone restyling. The updated model was presented to the general public back in 2005 at the Geneva Motor Show [6] . The car went on sale a year later. The new modification, in addition to small changes in appearance, has acquired a multimedia system that works using MOST technology ( English Media Oriented Serial Transport ), as well as custom-made DVD-navigation and integration with iPods . The engine range was supplemented by an improved 3.5-liter V8 engine. The CLK320 model was replaced by the CLK 350. On the steering wheel of the CLK 500 model installed paddle shifters from AMG modifications, and also replaced the gearbox with a new one - 7G-Tronic .
In 2007, the CLK 500 became known as the CLK 550, and the high-performance version of the CLK 55 AMG was replaced by the CLK 63 AMG.
In January 2009, production of the W209 series was completed. Mercedes-Benz W209 became the last representative of the CLK-class . The car replaced the new Mercedes-Benz coupe from the fourth generation of the E-Class - Mercedes-Benz W212 (body code C207 ).
Description
Exterior
The Mercedes-Benz W209 is 71 mm (2.4 inches) longer, 18 mm (0.7 inches) wider and 28 mm (1.1 inches) taller than its predecessor [7] . The exterior design is borrowed from the Mercedes-Benz W203 , on the basis of which the car is assembled (the same profile of the front optics, a similar body structure, the shape of bumpers and the like). Convertibles were equipped with a soft folding roof, controlled remotely.
Thanks to the 2005 restyling, the car received a new front bumper, a new radiator grill, updated taillights and modified wheels.
The model was produced in two execution lines: ELEGANCE (alloy wheels with a 7-spoke design, gray grille with decorative chrome trim, tinted glass in green, 4 interior colors to choose from, wooden trim with decorative chrome stripes) and AVANTGARDE (alloy wheels wheels with 5-spoke design, black grille with decorative chrome trim, blue tinted glass, 2 interior colors to choose from + 3 color combinations, ellyp aluminum trim ta with decorative chrome stripes) [8] . Since 2006, the AMG sports package appeared.

Interior
The interior of the Mercedes-Benz W209 is dominated by C-class design solutions, but they look more rich. Buyers had access to the Keyless-Go remote system [7] , replacing the ignition key. The engine could be turned on using the button located on the gear lever. The car had a solid 390-liter trunk for its class, more spacious rear seats, which could comfortably accommodate two adult passengers. For the US market, models with walnut leather upholstery were produced.
Restyling of 2005 brought changes to the interior of the car: the appearance of the dashboard was updated, the decoration materials were replaced with better and more modern ones. There was an option for leather trim with a thin stitching.
Two versions of the car were delivered to Europe: the first was with a focus on luxury (walnut-colored interior, polished rims and other elements), the second - on sportiness and aggressiveness.

Electrical equipment
European cars were significantly different, and usually changed depending on the needs of the buyer. However, all models came with four side airbags, seat belt pretensioners, THERMATIC automatic climate control [4] , DISTRONIC cruise control, rain sensor, anti-lock braking system ( ABS ) and electronic stability control ( ESP ). Keyless Go system , navigation, voice control system LINGUATRONIC , Parktronic , as well as bi-xenon ( Bi-Xenon HID ) front optics were available on order [7] .
Engines
The car was produced both with gasoline and diesel power units. In addition to standard modifications, the W209 was produced in high-performance versions from the Mercedes-AMG division.
