Scorzanitis, Sofoklis

Sofoklis Scorzanis ( Greek: Σοφοκλής Σχορτσανίτης ; born June 22, 1985 in Tiko , Cameroon ) is a Greek professional basketball player who plays the center position. He was selected for the 2003 NBA Draft under the 34th number by the Los Angeles Clippers Club, but continued his career in Europe.

Biography

Afrohrek . Scorzanitis's father is Greek , and mother is a camera . Sofoklis was born in the city of Tiko in Cameroon, grew up in Kavala , Greece. In the childhood I was engaged in chess , then I switched to basketball . He is a graduate of the Iraklis basketball club, in which he began his professional career in the 2001/2002 season. In 2003, he nominated himself for the NBA draft , but was selected only in the second round under the total number 34 by the Los Angeles Clippers Club. After the draft, Scorzanitis continued his career in Italy, where one season he played for the Kantu basketball club.

Returning to Greece in 2004, Sofoklis won one season for Aris , after which he became a player in one of Greece’s strongest clubs, Olympiacos . He managed to prove himself well in the new team and deserve an invitation to the national team of Greece , in which Scorzanitis won silver medals at the 2006 World Cup and bronze medals at the 2009 European Championship . Sofoklis four times participated in the match of all the stars of the Greek League, twice recognized as his most valuable player .

On August 5, 2010, he signed a two-year contract with the Israeli team Maccabi Tel Aviv .

On July 4, 2012, the player signed a three-year contract with the Greek Panathinaikos [1] in the amount of 1.5 million euros. Before that, he rejected the proposals of the “ Basque Country ” and “ Galatasaray ”, giving preference to “green” and returned to Greece [2] .
