Biography
Until 1945
In his youth, in the Polish scouting (scouting) movement . After Bialystok returned to the Soviet Union, he organized an underground scouts organization “ Gray ranks ” in the city and became the head of the underground movement in Bialystok. In 1940, the NKVD was arrested [1] , sentenced to death, commuted to 10 years in prison. Prisoner of Kolyma, released on the basis of the Sikorsky-Maisky agreement . He fought in the Anders Army , including participated in the battle of Monte Cassino .
In exile
After the war he lived in exile in the UK. He graduated from the Institute of Foreign Trade. 35 years worked as an accountant. Head of the Union of Polish Scouts in Exile until 1988, leader of the international scout movement.
An activist of the "National Council" (exiled parliament). From 1986 - Minister of Government in exile, in 1989-1990 - President in exile. December 22, 1990 presented the democratically elected Polish President Lech Walesa with presidential insignia.
After 1990
He stayed in London, but often visited Poland and enjoyed fame and respect due to numerous public appearances. Honorary Citizen of Bialystok , Warsaw, Krakow and many other Polish cities, honorary doctor of several Polish universities.
Doom
April 10, 2010 he died in a plane crash in Smolensk [2] . The oldest of those killed in the crash [3] [4] . He was buried on April 19, 2010 in the Pantheon of the Great Poles in the under construction Church of Divine Providence in Warsaw [5] .
