European Association of Southeast Asian Studies

The European Association for Southeast Asian Studies (The European Association for Southeast Asian Studies - EuroSEAS) is a European organization that unites specialists involved in the study of the countries of Southeast Asia (Southeast Asia) ^[1] .

The association was created in 1992 at a meeting of 19 leading SUE researchers. It is currently chaired by Professor Duncan McCargo of the School of Political and International Studies at the University of Leeds (England). Secretary of the organization Professor Henk Schulte Nordholt, head of research at the Royal Netherlands Institute for Southeast Asian and Caribbean Studies in Leiden, Holland, also has its permanent secretariat.

Every two to three years, the association organizes international conferences (Leiden, 1995; Hamburg, 1998; London, 2001; Paris, 2004; Naples, 2007; Gothenburg, 2010; Lisbon, 2013; Vienna, 2015 ^[2] ); Oxford, 2017; Berlin, 2019).

The collective members of the association in Russia are the Nusantara Society , the ASEAN Center of MGIMO of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Center for Research of SEA, Australia and Oceania of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Center for Research in Vietnam and ASEAN of the Institute of the Far East of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Department of History of SEA and Far East, ISAA Moscow State University M.V. Lomonosov, Department of History of the Far East, Faculty of Asian and African Studies, St. Petersburg State University, Department of Oriental Studies, Moscow State Institute of International Relations, Institute of Oriental Manuscripts (St. Petersburg), Peter the Great Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography (St. Petersburg), School of Regional and International Studies (Vladivostok).

In 2001, the Association included the European Colloquium on Indonesian and Malay Studies .
