"Asahi Shimbun" [2] ( Japanese 朝日 新聞, あ さ ひ し ん ぶ ん , literally. Newspaper " Morning Sun "; romaji : Asahi Shimbun ) is the national Japanese newspaper .

Content
History
The newspaper began to be published in 1879 in Osaka , consisted of four illustrated pages and cost 1 sen (1/100 yen ), and its staff was 20 people. Of these, Noboru Kimura (owner), Ryohei Murayama (president and publisher) and Tey Tsuda (editor-in-chief) were considered founders.
In 1966, the daily circulation of the newspaper was 4.7 million copies [3] .
Present
It is a nationwide publication funded by Mitsui Concern. Circulation: 6 million copies in the morning, and 4 million copies. - in the evening. Morning rooms come in 14 versions (until 14:00), 4 views of each island of the country. Large-format newspaper, 66% of the circulation is distributed by subscription. The newspaper has 226 local bureaus, 1 general bureau, 61 regional offices, and uses the services of 14 news agencies.
The newspaper has 2 English-language projects. One option is Asahi Evening News — half the newspaper in English , half in Japanese . It is characterized by a chronicle presentation of the material.
The newspaper has its own fund, which presents an annual award . The newspaper avoids noisy headlines; it has pronounced liberal views. Audience: intellectuals , people with higher education, youth. Spokai Asahi is an entertainment information weekly.
On Sundays, the New York Times Weekly Review, the AERA analytic weekly, is released. Publications are widescreen. Advertising in them occupies 55-60% of the area.
Since 2004, the newspaper, together with the Mainichi Shimbun , has sponsored the oldest shogi title tournament, Meijin . Both of these newspapers lead shogi columns. The contract amount is 360 million yen (about $ 4 million) per year [4] .
