Distribution
Neotropics : South and Central America [1] .
Description
Large species, characterized by an unusual shape of the head and coloring of the wings. Body length 65 - 105 mm, the main color is yellowish brown with black and white marks. Head with large bulges resembling peanuts in shape, the head of a crocodile or a snake with false eyes. The eighth and ninth abdominal tergites of females are approximately equal in length. They have many local names, especially in Amazonia ( lantern fly, peanut bug, peanut-headed lanternfly, alligator bug, machaca, jequitiranaboia ) [1] .
