History
The diocese of Sarlat la Caneda was founded in 1317 during the Albiguian Crusade against the Cathars . The first bishop of the diocese was the abbot of the Benedictine monastery , located on the site of the current church. The reconstruction of the church was completed in the 1680s. In 1801, the diocese of Sarlat la Caneda was abolished and the Cathedral of St. Satserdos of Limoges lost its cathedral status.
