The total length of 4100 - 4300 km. Width 500-1000 km, up to 1500 km. The prevailing depths over the ridge are 2500-3000 m, the smallest depth is 878 m. The slopes are relatively gentle.

The main distinguishing feature from other middle ridges is a large width, less dissected and less pronounced rift zone . In the structure, the zone of through faults and associated gorges play an important role, which cut the ridge into separate segments and provide free penetration of cold bottom waters from the south into the basins located to the north.
