History
The first known settlement was built by the Assyrians around 800 BC. Later, the Greeks began to call the city of Urima, and under Byzantium, Romeon Kila ( Greek .ωμαιων Κοιλα ).
The fact that there was a Greek fortress can be traced in the following names - Arabic Kalat al-Rum and Turkish Rumkale (which in Arabic and Turkish means "Greek fortress"). The ruins of the fortress have survived to this day.
Today, many low-lying areas are flooded upon completion of the dam in 1999.
Culture
Four seasons (125 episodes) of the Black Rose series (Karagül) were shot in Halfeti.
