Cox, Brian (actor)

Cox was born in Dundee, Scotland, in a family of workers, Roman Catholics. His ancestors originate from Ireland and Scotland. He is the youngest of 5 children in the family and the only son of his parents ^[2] . He is a descendant of Irish migrants who moved to Scotland ^{[3] [4]} . His mother, Mary Ann Guillerline (maiden name McCann), was a spinner and worked on jute grinding. She suffered from various nervous diseases while Coke was a child ^[5] . His father, Charles McArdle Campbell Cox (Charles McArdle Campbell Cox) worked on the slaughter of livestock, and later owned a store and died when Cox was 8 years old ^{[5] [6]} . Cox was raised by four of his older sisters ^[7] . He joined the Dundee Repertory Theater in the city at the age of 14.

Cox attended St Mary's Forebank Elementary School, and then St Michael's Junior High School (both in Dundee), which he left at 15. After he worked at the Dundee Repertory Theater for several years, he went to drama school at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts and studied there for two years from 17 to 19 years ^[8] .

Marriages and Family

Cox divorced his first wife, Caroline Burt. The couple have two children, Margaret and Alan , who is also an actor. He is best known for his roles in the films “ Young Sherlock Holmes, ” and also for the role of the young John Mortimer in the television movie based on his play “ A Voyage Round My Father ” (1982), where he played with Laurence Olivier .

Cox has been married to actress Nicole Ansari since 2002. The couple has two sons and currently reside in New York ^[9] .

Charity

Cox is the patron saint of the Scottish Youth Theater. The building of the theater in Glasgow, The Old Sheriff Court, named "the Brian Cox Studio Theater" (Theater Studio. Brian Cox) in his honor. He also provides support for THE SPACE, a training ground for actors and dancers in Dundee, his hometown, and is also the "ambassador" of Screen Academy Scotland .

On February 11, 2010, Cox was selected as the 12th Rector of the University of Dundee by the students of the educational institution itself ^[10] . He was also re-elected in January 2013. ^[11] Since July 2008, he is an honorary doctorate from Napier University in Edinburgh.

In April 2010, Cox, along with Ian McKellen and Eleanor Bron, starred in a series of television commercials to support Age UK , a newly created charity that cares and helps older people. All actors freed time from other projects and shot in this ad for free ^[12] .

On April 14, 2012, Cox became the 10th Grand Marshal at the New York City Parade.

Awards

On December 31, 2002, Cox became commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE).
