Chris Menges ( born Chris Menges , born September 15, 1940 , Kington, Herefordshire , England ) is a British cameraman and director. Two-time winner of the Academy Award and the BAFTA Award for camera work.

Biography

Descendant of immigrants from Germany. Grandfather - violinist, father - composer and conductor. He began as a cameraman documentary and short films, including collaborated with Mai Setterling , Lindsay Anderson . The first full-length film in which he acted as the main cameraman - Ken Loach 's Kes ( 1968 ). Subsequently, he worked with major directors in the UK and the USA. Member of the British and American Society of Cameramen.

In 1988 he made his first film as a director.
