Father, Girard Buonalbergo, supported the warlike ambitions of Robert Guiscard and gave 200 knights for his daughter as a dowry. Alberada gave birth to two children for Guiscard - the daughter of Emma, the mother of Tancred of Tarento , and the son of Boehmund , named in baptism by Mark, Prince of Taranto and Antioch . After in 1058, Pope Nicholas II tightened church laws regarding the degree of consanguinity between spouses, Robert Guiscard annulled his marriage to Alberada and remarried to Sishelgait , daughter of Guemar IV , Prince Salerno .
Alberada also remarried to Count di Mottola Richard, son of Count Apulia Drogo - that is, the nephew of her first husband Robert Guiscard - from this marriage she had a son Roger, Count di Mottola (died in 1119)
Alberada lived to a very old age and died in July 1122, having survived her son for 11 years. Her body was buried in the tomb of the Otville family in Venoz .
