Biography
Born into a Lutheran family, and in 1966 converted to the Catholic faith . In 1970, he decided to become a priest .
After graduating from seminary at the University of Freiburg , on May 28, 1977 he was ordained a priest . Under the leadership of Karl Lehmann, he defended his thesis on the topic “ Das Prinzip des Protestantismus bei Paul Tillich ” [1] . He served as a priest in Helsinki and Jyväskylä .
On June 16, 2008, Pope Benedict XVI appointed him the ordinator of the country's only Catholic diocese in Helsinki .
On September 5, 2008, he was ordained bishop, becoming the first Catholic bishop to be Finnish by nationality since Bishop Abo Arvi Kurki ( Fin. Arvi Kurki ), who died in 1522.
