Ashadha

Asadha ( Skt. आषाढ ) is the month of the Hindu calendar , in the unified national calendar of India, ashadha is the fourth month of the year, beginning on June 22 and ending on July 22. It has 31 days.

According to the lunar religious calendar, ashadha begins with a new moon or full moon in the same period of time and also goes like the fourth month of the year.

In solar religious calendars, the month of ashadha begins with the entry of the Sun into the constellation Gemini .

This month there are ambuvachis, that is, four days (from 10 to 13 and the day of the dark half of the month) when the land is considered unclean, and therefore it is forbidden to engage in field work [1] . It is in the month of ashadha that the Jagannath temple organizes a festival of “chariot departure” ( Ratha Yatra ), during which three statues are taken out of this temple and hundreds of people, harnessed to chariots, carry them through the city. On the fifth day of the dark half of this month (or the month of Shravana ) is held by the Nagapanches , one of the ritual feasts in honor of the snakes.
