The French national team took part in the Olympic hockey tournament for the 10th time in history. To get to the game, the French hockey players had to overcome two qualifying rounds. At the preliminary stage of the Olympic tournament, the French team failed to show high results and took the last place in their group, playing a draw with Switzerland and losing to the teams of Belarus and Ukraine. In the classification match for the 13th place in the rivals of the French team went strong team of Slovakia. The match passed with the overwhelming advantage of the Slovak national team and as a result, the wards of the Finnish specialist Heikki Leime were defeated with a score of 1: 7, and the French scored their only goal 41 seconds before the end of the bout.
