He studied at the Royal College of Music in London (1928-1933). [1] He played at the London Symphony ( 1933 - 1938 ), the London Philharmonic ( 1938 - 1952 ), and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestras. As a soloist, he is known for performing the William Walton Concerto for Viola and Orchestra (in 1937 he premiered the concert with the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by the author) and the Harold in Italy symphony by Hector Berlioz (recorded with the London Philharmonic conducted by Herman Schergen ; performed the premiere of the viola concert Giorgio Ghedini ( 1953 , conductor Thomas Beecham ) Since 1964 - professor at the Royal College of Music .
