Criticism
Nachum Barnea , Israel Prize Laureate , formulated the “Lynch Test” for Israeli journalists [6] [7] on their attitude of “lynching in Ramallah” (2001) . According to Barnea, Eldar does not criticize Arab terrorism , and thus does not satisfy the requirements of this test.
Eldar replied in his article that he “acknowledges the charge against him.” He writes that he
- “... (not only) a journalist doing his job, but also with a considerable amount of passion. Any Israeli who has a conscience, especially observing the real situation near and daily, cannot write about the occupation from the neutral point of view of an impartial observer ” [6] .
In response, The Jerusalem Post columnist Kalev Ben-David wrote that if Eldar does not sympathize with the Israelis, he also “contributes little to the cause of the Palestinian people” ... [8] .
In 2003, David Beidin (Badin) criticized A. Eldar for accepting an invitation from a subsidiary of Shalom Ahshav to the United States with a promise of funding from the Foundation for Middle East peace his settlement investigation book, calling the receipt of money from the lobby, supported by a foreign government, a clear violation of journalistic ethics.
