Elastomer

Elastomers are polymers with highly elastic properties and viscosity. Rubber or elastomer is any elastic material that can stretch to sizes many times its initial length ( elastomeric thread ), and, what is important, return to its original size when the load is removed.

Not all amorphous polymers are elastomers. Some of them are thermoplastics . It depends on their glass transition temperature : elastomers have low glass transition temperatures, and thermoplastics have high. (This rule only works for amorphous polymers, not crystallized ones.)

Also called the elastomer part of the shock absorber , acting as a damper in the spring-elastomeric forks .

Elastomer Examples

Typical elastomers are various rubbers and rubbers .

Unsaturated rubbers that can be vulcanized with sulfur compounds:

  1. Natural rubber .
  2. Synthetic Polyisoprene ( IR , Polyisoprene, SKI ):
    • Butyl rubber ( IIR , isobutylene-isoprene copolymer).
    • Halogenated butyl rubber - chlorobutyl rubber ( CIIR, Chloro Butyl Rubber ) and bromobutyl rubber ( BIIR, Bromo Butyl Rubber ).
  3. Butadiene rubber ( BR, SKB ):
    • Styrene butadiene rubber ( SBR , polystyrene-polybutadiene copolymer).
    • Nitrile butadiene rubber (copolymer of polybutadiene and acrylonitrile, NBR, perbunan, SKN, BNKS).
    • Hydrogenated nitrile butadiene rubber ( HNBR, Hydrated Nitrile Rubbers ) - Therban and Zetpol .
  4. Chloroprene rubber ( CR, Chloroprene Rubber ), polychloroprene, Neoprene , Baypren, Nairit, etc.
  5. Polysulfide rubbers .

Saturated rubbers that cannot be cured with sulfur compounds:

  • Ethylene-propylene rubber ( EPR, ethylene propylene rubber , copolymer based on polyethylene and polypropylene) and ethylene-propylene-diene rubber ( EPDM, ethylene , terpolymer of polyethylene, polypropylene and diene components).
  • Epichlorohydrin rubber ( ECO ).
  • Polyacrylic rubber ( ACM, ABR ).
  • Silicone rubber - silicone rubber ( SI, Q, VMQ, SKT ).
  • Fluorosilicone rubber ( FVMQ, Fluorosilicone Rubber ) .
  • Fluoroelastomer ( FKM, FPM, GFR ) - Viton , Tecnoflon , Fluorel and Dai-El.
  • Perfluoroelastomers ( FFKM ).
  • Tetrafluoroethylene / Propylene Rubber ( FEPM ).
  • Chlorosulfate-polyethylene ( CSM , HSPE, Hypalon ).
  • Ethylene Vinyl Acetate ( EVA ).
  • Thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer ( TPU , Ecopur ).

Other elastomers:

  • Thermoplastic elastomers ( TPE ) [1] , such as Hytrel , Santoprene, etc.
  • Polyurethane
  • Rezilin , elastin .
