History
The predecessor of the Grand Duchy, the Baden Margrave was created in the XII century , and then divided into several lands, which in 1771 were again united into a single Margrave.
In 1803, Baden became the Elector of the Holy Roman Empire.
In the Pressburg Peace of 1805, the ancient clan possession of the Dukes of Tseringen - Breisgau was annexed to Baden.
In 1806, the territory of Baden expanded due to the collapse of the Holy Roman Empire . Thanks to the entry into the Rhine Union , Baden was renamed the Grand Duchy and the majority of the Fürsternberg possessions, the Landgrafism of Kletgau, the Principality of Leiningen and others were joined to it.
In 1815, the Grand Duchy joined the German Union .
During the 1848 revolution , Baden was the center of revolutionary activity. In 1849, Baden became the only German state-republic, however, for a short time: the revolution in the duchy was suppressed by the Prussian troops.
