Champions League
In the 2006/07 season, CSKA and Spartak (Moscow) will compete for the cup from Russia. Spartak will enter the fight at the second qualifying stage, and the army team at the third.
The path of Spartak
The rival of Spartak was determined on June 18, in the return match of Sheriff - Pyunik , the Moldavian club confidently won and advanced to the second qualifying round, where Muscovites were waiting for him.
Both matches with the “Sheriff” came out tense, as evidenced even by the score of 1: 1 fights in Tiraspol and 0: 0 in Moscow . As befits a favorite, “Spartak” attacked a lot, created moments, owned the ball, but his playing advantage was very difficult to realize in goals. In the first match, relaxing at the end of the meeting, the Muscovites missed the victory, having conceded a goal from the corner. In the second, after getting injured by Yegor Titov almost at the very beginning of the second half, the game of Spartak was unstuck and the advantage passed to the Sheriff, dangerous moments appeared at both gates, but at the final stage the attackers either didn’t beat accurately or the goalkeepers showed an excellent game , or the defenders stood in the way of the ball flying into the already empty net.
Thanks to a goal scored on the road to the next round, Spartak is playing, where he met with the Czech club Slovan .
In the first away match, the red and white played without two injured base players, Titov and Bystrov . The guests had the advantage in the game, to which Spartak responded with counterattacks, and Fernando Cavenaghi missed the only chance to score. The end result of a goalless draw 0: 0
CSKA Way
CSKA started the league in the third qualifying round. In a home game against the Ruzomberok club, the Russians demonstrated an excellent game, the team acted clearly and harmoniously. As a result of two goals of Olic and one Wagner Love, CSKA almost decided the issue of entering the group stage. In the second leg, CSKA scored 2 more goals against Ruzomberok, Carvalho and Wagner Love scored themselves, thereby securing access to the group stage. The first match in the group stage of the Champions League CSKA played away from Porto . The match ended with the score 0-0. CSKA held its first home game with an outsider of the Hamburg tournament, which it deservedly won. The only goal scored by Dudu. In the next match, CSKA played with Arsenal , at the 24th minute the score was opened by Carvalho, who scored after a free-kick. In the return match, only luck saved the army from defeat, “Arsenal” did not realize many scoring chances and the score remained 0-0. The next match of CSKA - Porto was held in Moscow. Tired after leaving for Vladivostok, the army team lost with a score of 0: 2. Now CSKA had chances to reach the League's 1/8 finals only when they won one of the teams in the match between Porto and Arsenal and won away from Hamburg. The match “Porto” - “Arsenal”, which ended with the score 0: 0, and the defeat of “Hamburg” with the score 3: 2 put an end to CSKA exit from the group in the Champions League playoffs. However, in the spring of 2007, CSKA began its journey in the UEFA Cup.
Intertoto Cup
This year, in the Intertoto Cup, Russia was represented by Moscow , which began playing in the tournament from the second round. The first rival of the Russian club was the Belarusian MTZ-RIPO , who won the first round of Karaganda Shakhtar . Muscovites won the first match in their field on July 2 with a score of 2-0, goals were scored by Peter Bystrov and Roman Adamov . In the return match on July 9, Muscovites won again, with a more modest score of 1-0.
On July 16, in the third round of the tournament, FC Moskva met with the German club Hertha on the opponent’s field. The match ended in a goalless draw, the Germans played without several of their key players resting after the World Cup . The game turned out to be sharp and interesting, with a lot of goal situations, our club possessed a game advantage, but failed to translate it into goals. The return match was held on July 22, the winner of the match in Moscow were the guests who scored two unanswered goals; they got the right to participate in the UEFA Cup 2006/2007 .
