Baden-Baden 1870 - The 1st international chess tournament (congress) in Germany held from July 18 to August 4, 1870 in Baden-Baden.
I.S. Turgenev , a big chess fan, was invited as vice president. 9 participants played in 2 rounds with a time control of 1 hour for 20 moves. The tenth participant, Stern, managed to play 2 games each with Steinitz and Minkwitz and dropped out of the tournament, as he was drafted into the army in connection with the outbreak of the Franco-Prussian war . [1] His results were canceled, and 2 points were added to all participants.
