The national parks of New Zealand are under the management of the Department of Conservation (Department of Conservation), which manages about 30% of the country (more than 8 million hectares). In 1980, the National Park Act was passed, designed to comply with national interests in the conservation of biodiversity and natural ecosystems of the country. The law also gives access to parks, while restricting access to specially protected areas [1] .
In 2015, the list included 13 active national parks. Another park, Urevera , lost its status in 2014. The total area of national parks is about 2.5 million hectares. The first national park in 1887 was Tongariro , which is also included in the UNESCO World Heritage List [1] , the last in 2002 was received the status of Rakiura .
