The Danish tier ( Dan ) is the lower tier of the Paleocene division of the Paleogene system. It includes rocks formed during the Danish century , which lasted from 66.0 to 61.6 million years ago [1] .

The deposits of the Danish tier are underlain by the rocks of the Maastrichtian tier of the Upper Cretaceous Mesozoic system , overlain by the deposits of the Zeeland tier of the Paleocene part of the Cenozoic Paleogene system.

The name was proposed in 1847. Previously, it was considered the upper tier of the Cretaceous system [2] [3] .
