The Makhachkala district is an administrative-territorial unit of the Dagestan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic , which existed in 1952-1953. The administrative center is the city of Makhachkala .

The district was formed on June 25, 1952 , when the entire territory of the Dagestan ASSR was divided into 4 districts. Bordered with Buynaksk and Izberbash districts of the Dagestan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic , as well as with the Grozny region .
It was divided into 10 districts, 1 city of republican subordination and 2 cities of district subordination:

On April 24, 1953, all districts of the Dagestan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic were abolished.
