Montepulciano ( Italian: Montepulciano ) is an Italian city of the Mannerist palazzo in the very south of Tuscany , in the province of Siena . It is located on a hill (605 m) 13 km east of Pienza and 70 km southeast of Siena .

Economics
The city has been specializing in the food industry for centuries. It produces excellent spaghetti and cheese . However, Montepulciano owes his worldwide fame to his “ noble wine ”. According to P.P. Muratov , "this wine has a tenacity, the ability to be aged, bringing it closer to the wines of France."
Historical background
Legend attributes the founding of the city of Porsenn . The name comes from the Latin expression "Mount Publitsiana." The political life of the medieval city was determined by the traditional confrontation of several patrician families, of which the most famous are Poliziano .
Since the XII century, the inhabitants of Montepulciano fought a grueling struggle with the aggressive aspirations of the Siena Republic ; this pushed them at the end of the fourteenth century into an alliance with Florence . In 1511, at the direction of the Florentine Medici, the architect Sangallo surrounded the city with strong walls.
After Florence subjugated the Sienans (1559), Montepulciano's significance melted as a counterweight to the power of Siena in southern Italy. The city for a long time became the residence of wealthy Tuscan nobles.
