Matches of applicants 1980-1981 - a stage of the competition for the World Chess Championship, where the applicant for the match with the world champion is identified.

8 participants, including B. Spassky and V. Korchnoi - finalists of the previous applicants match, and 6 prize-winners of 1979 interzonal tournaments in Riga and Rio de Janeiro - A. Adoryan , T. Petrosyan , L. Polugaevsky , L. Portish , M. Tal , R. Hubner .
