A drop of water is a grain of gold (literal translation from Turkmen ) is the official national holiday of Turkmenistan , which has been celebrated annually since 1995 on the first Sunday of April [1] .

Content
History
The national holiday “A drop of water is a grain of gold” is celebrated in the republic according to the Decree of S. A. Niyazov . For the first time this holiday was celebrated in Turkmenistan in 1995 [2] . Commenting on the name of the holiday, Serdar of Turkmenistan noted that the ancestors of Turkmenistan " compared every drop of water with a grain of gold, worshiped it as the largest shrine sent down by Allah ." The organizer and ideologist of the holiday popularly proclaimed as his goal the artificial mitigation of the harsh and dry climate of the Karakum desert and the transformation of the Republic into a resort of world level and significance [3] .
In 2006, S. A. Niyazov said the following: “The wonderful holiday that we began to celebrate in the era of independence is a holiday of the people's dream of water, a generous gratitude to the earth drunk with water, this holiday is a symbol of precious moisture that turns the steppes and our plains in blooming oases " .
Celebration
In Ashgabat , in the regional centers of Turkmenistan and near large reclamation facilities during the festival “A drop of water is a grain of gold”, various theatrical performances, concerts of professional and amateur pop and folk ensembles of Turkmenistan are held [4] .
“A drop of water is a grain of gold” is a professional holiday of Turkmen land reclamators and water workers. Traditionally, industry workers are awarded state awards, cash prizes, souvenirs, commendations and letters of appreciation from managers on this day. [ what? ] .
