Biography
Born April 16, 1927 in Kaluga . She graduated from the Moscow Choreographic School (now the Moscow State Academy of Choreography), teacher M. A. Kozhukhova .
For 27 years (from 1946 to 1973) she was a soloist of the Bolshoi ballet troupe, where she performed on stage in leading ballet parties and continued to improve under the guidance of Bolshoi Theater teacher-tutor Marina Semenova .
“The double role of Odette-Odile in the performance of Rimma Karelskaya was distinguished by high stage design, completeness of movements, especially emphasized in the most important scenes of the play. The ballerina conquered the audience, proving once again that virtuosity does not preclude acting ” - this is how they wrote in reviews of the Bolshoi’s performances at the first Paris tour (1958) [1] .
In 1971-1974 she was a teacher of classical dance in the Concert Ensemble Classical Ballet.
Since 1973, a teacher, in 1974-2007 - choreographer-tutor of the Bolshoi Theater .
- “Performance was distinguished by the ease and breadth of jumps, good rotation technique, and the academic purity of classical dance” [2] .
From 1974 to 2007 - choreographer-tutor of the Bolshoi Theater. .
On March 10, 1995, Rimma Karelskaya, along with several other prominent figures of the Bolshoi Theater, took part in a strike - the disruption of the play "Romeo and Juliet" by Yuri Grigorovich - in protest against the change of leadership of the theater: then Vladimir Kokonin was appointed general director, and Vladimir Vasilyev was appointed artistic director: instead of the ballet indicated on the poster, 14 famous renowned masters appeared on the stage and explained to the stunned public the reasons and essence of what was happening. The court upheld the decision of the theater administration, which dismissed the "conspirators", but many were immediately forgiven and returned: Natalya Bessmertnova worked as a tutor-tutor until the end of her days, and Rimma Karelskaya took an active part in the renewal (2010) of the play “Romeo and Juliet” by Yu. Grigorovich [3] .
In April 2007, the Bolshoi Theater celebrated the birthday of ballerina and teacher Rimma Klavdievna Karelskaya and in honor of her anniversary dedicated the play “Swan Lake” to her on April 19 (three days after her official birthday), in the main party - Svetlana Zakharova .
Died September 25, 2014 in Moscow .
