Filming
The shooting took place in the Russian North in the Museum-Reserve of Old Russian Architecture "Small Korely" in the village of Small Karely (near Arkhangelsk ), several episodes were filmed on the White Sea in Severodvinsk .
At the same time, it was noted by critics that “Nature appears not only as a backdrop to action, but sometimes it grows to an independent image” [1] .
The "battlefield" was filmed near the village of Llava on the banks of the Llava river (the right tributary of the Northern Dvina), and the role of "33 heroes" was played by local border guards from the barracks of the Uprising in Arkhangelsk [2] .
Criticism
“Forest Princess” impresses the viewer from the first frames, from the first sounds: an application for colorfulness, richness, some amazing breadth and fullness of the frame, for a high-volume sound. The picture was a success, both because this genre is a rarity today, and because we finally got a real film for family viewing.

The wonderful fairy tale with unforgettable music by Soundrama Studio was the result of the hard work of Vladimir Pankov and his colleagues, who roamed around villages and villages, collected folklore and searched for new musical instruments. Therefore, this is not only a fairy tale, but also a study of our past through the prism of folk tales. The most remarkable character can be considered the cat Bayun , which looks very atypical for Russian cinema.

“Forest Princess” is, first of all, an attempt to modernize, resurrect, the Russian epic for a young audience. A dynamic and even mystical plot of one of the strangest folk tales “Go there - I don’t know where” is hidden behind the meow facade in the style of Rowe .

We admit a mistake. When our magazine launched the “Return the Fairy Tale to Children” campaign, in which we are trying to raise the question of the revival of Russian children's cinema, we claimed that for 20 years we have not had a single film for kids. But, as it turned out, this is not at all true. It turned out that there was a film and it was released relatively recently (filmed in 2004), and was released in 2005. And it is called "Lesnaya Tsarevna".
