Vasily Tarnovsky (the youngest ; April 1, 1837 - July 13, 1899 ) - a public and cultural figure , collector of Ukrainian antiquities, philanthropist , born in s. Antonovka (now Varvinsky district , Chernihiv region ).

Biography
He graduated from Kiev University .
He became the Marshal of Nizhyn County ( 1875 - 1887 ). Gathered a collection of Cossack-hetman museum and archival antiquities. He published an album with photographs of Shevchenko etchings and a catalog of his museum collections, as well as an album of hetmans βHistorical Figures of South-West Russiaβ by V. Antonovich and V. Betz.
He was the founder of the Museum of Ukrainian Antiquities - now the Chernihiv Regional History Museum. V. Tarnovsky , which he presented in 1897 to the Chernigov provincial zemstvo with the condition of placing the collection in the house of the former military chancellery.
He became the prototype of one of the heroes of the painting by Ilya Repin "Cossacks write a letter to the Turkish Sultan . " The rarities from his collection - the saber of the hetman Bogdan Khmelnitsky , as well as the personal belongings of the hetman Mazepa were also captured in the picture, and later became part of the Chernihiv Historical Museum [1] .
