Story

The film develops several storylines. The central line consists of a story about three teenage girls - Dasha ( Sonya Ardova ), Sveta ( Maria Belova ) and Lena ( Anfisa Chernykh ). They are classmates and close friends, each of them has problems in the family.

Lena

  • Mother ( Maria Shukshina ) is an active careerist, works as the director of the school where girls study. She is by all means eager to get the place of the head of the city RayONO and behaves like a real tyrant. At the workplace, she is ruthless to anyone and maintains a strict distance even between herself and her daughter. She does not notice at all that Lena is already beginning to seriously evaluate herself as a woman.
  • Father ( Valery Garkalin ) was a famous violinist in the past, whose fame has now rolled, and he is drunk quietly.

Sveta

  • Mother ( Olga Prokofieva ) has a lover - the head of the store where she works (this is not someone, but her husband’s brother) and is ready to leave her family, but does not dare.
  • Father ( Anatoly Zhuravlev ) owns the oil business, is constantly on the move and, according to assumptions, also cheats on his wife.

Dasha

  • Father ( Sergey Belogolovtsev ) left the family when his mistress became pregnant, and Dasha cannot forgive him for this.
  • Mother ( Anna Ardova ) after a divorce turns into a workaholic, grabs at any opportunity to get extra money and therefore does not even sleep at home. In her spare time, her daughter is being watched by the descending woman Nyura, who is only interested in TV shows.

All three girls are essentially left to their own devices. They spend most of their free time on the roof of one of the houses, finding their only consolation in their friendship, which begins to crack when a new boy, Maxim ( Ilya Sokolov ), comes to their class, in which all three girls fall in love at once, but upon reflection, they decide not to run after him, but wait until he himself draws attention to one of them. The first oath breaks the Light. Because of this, Dasha and Lena begin to feel intense jealousy, and Dasha persuades Sveta to stop meeting with Maxim. Sveta parted with Maxim, and then he turns his attention to Lena, that Dasha also does not give rest, since she regards this as a betrayal.

Sveta, meanwhile, becomes a secret witness of how her mother kisses her uncle. Her parents decide to disperse, however, seeing what despair their daughter is in, they decide not to injure her and lie that they remain together. The next day, Sveta skips school, fearing that her mother will leave home. In the evening, taking advantage of the fact that Sveta fell asleep, her mother leaves the house for several minutes to finally restore the status quo with her lover, but Sveta finds out about this and falls into even greater despair.

Between Dasha and Lena in the toilet there is a fight, which Dasha first started. In an impulse, Lena tells Dasha a lot of offensive things, and Dasha, in revenge, locks the geography teacher in the teacher’s room, and then persuades Lena to tell the whole class that there will be no geography lesson. When the principal calls the class to account, her anger falls on her daughter.

Sveta, realizing that her parents deceived her, leaves the house, and Dasha attaches her to the woman Nyura. Since she requires a fee for food, Dasha goes to the store and accidentally sees Maxim and Lena. Having again fallen into a fit of jealousy, she, having forgotten about Sveta, goes home, calls Lena there and finds out that she and Maxim are at her place, after which she calls Lena's mother and tells her that her daughter locked herself in the apartment with the boy and does not open the door . Then her mother calls Dasha and, judging by the further development of the plot, she wants to say that they will finally spend this evening together, but Dasha no longer listens to her to the end. Then a small scene follows, where Dasha, crying, screams that she agrees to go for a whole year in only one set of clothes, if only her mother was next to her. Then the camera shows that she is saying this, referring to her mother’s dressing gown.

Meanwhile, Sveta eats in the kitchen of a woman of Nyura, and she tells her her story: once she had a husband and daughter, who were hit by a car. The driver, who lived in a neighboring house, did not go to trial because he managed to pay off, and then the woman began to live only in revenge for him, which ended with the fact that once she took a knife, came to his house and, falling into unconsciousness, killed . She was arrested, but later released for exemplary behavior. Sveta's parents, looking for a daughter, ask each other for forgiveness.

Lena

The enraged mother of Lena runs home with the firm thought that her daughter and Maxim had an intimate relationship. Maxim, frightened, runs away. The mother announces to Lena that they are going to the gynecologist, but then the father comes and demands clarification: his wife, in order to return her husband to the orchestra, told his supervisor that Lena is his daughter and therefore he is obliged to take her husband to him in order to pay him back for growing Lena. The mother admits that this is not true, but the real and not very beautiful truth is found out here: the mother, being married, once had an affair with the leader (which is why he believed that Lena was his daughter) and because of this, the father began to drink and destroyed your career. Lena, unable to withstand more mother’s selfishness and cruelty, runs away from home in hysteria.

Sveta

Sveta's parents decide to look for her at Dasha and she leads them to Baba Nyura. They find the light in poor condition because it is drunk. Parents drag her into the car and on the way demand that she no longer communicate with Dasha. Sveta protects Dasha and screams that it’s their fault, that they have deceived her and that now "there will be nothing like before." She jumps out of the car on the go and hides.

Dasha

Dasha, having calculated that Maxim is no longer with Lena, appoints him a date where he confesses his love. Maxim in surprise asks why she didn’t tell him before and Dasha reminds about girls. In response, Maxim laughs and says that he is only thirteen years old and therefore there can be no talk of any love. Dasha also begins to laugh but hysterically and drives Maxim out, shouting that because of him she had a falling out with her friends. Realizing the latter, she also rushes to run.

Roof

Dasha’s mother comes home and, not having caught her daughter there, tries to call her on her mobile, but he is disconnected. She runs away in horror from the apartment. Lena's father accuses his wife of turning the whole family into puppets, then they reconcile and decide to forget everything. Her mother receives a call and finds out about the signing of an order on her appointment as head of the department of public education. She and her husband are happy, but they don’t think about their daughter at all. The fate of the parents of Sveta is not shown.

The first to come to the roof is Lena. She slowly approaches the edge and sees on the wall of the neighboring house a large advertising poster with the image of her mother and the inscription “My city is my family!”. Crying, Lena turns to her mother with the words that she loved her, but for her, for some reason, this was not enough. Then, encouraging herself, she tells her mother that she does not love her at all and considers her a hindrance in her career, and if Lena is now dead, her mother will have everything. Everything except the daughter.

Dasha stands next to her. She also cries and asks Lena forgiveness for jealousy, but Lena says she is to blame and offers to jump together. They are hugging. Dasha is afraid and Lena says that she closes her eyes (and at this moment they show that they are celebrating a wedding in the courtyard of the house on the roof of which they are standing).

And at that moment the Light runs up to them. She runs to the roof for the same purpose, but when she sees her friends standing on the edge, apparently, recalls the story of Baba Nyura and realizes that the most precious thing a person has is Life. She grabs their hands, jerks them off the edge and the three of them fall to the surface. Sveta, also crying, embraces them and reproaches that they decided to die without thinking about her. “You need to live! Live! And then nobody-nobody can stop us! ”, Shouts Sveta and the three of them continue to cry.

The last frame of the film - a poster with Lena's mother, hanging on the wall of a neighboring house, breaks off and falls down.
