The history of the Academy began in 1931, when the Central Correspondence Courses of Soviet Law (correspondence legal university) were formed in Moscow. In 1933, the courses were renamed the Central Correspondence Institute of Soviet Law (TsZISP), which in 1937 was transformed into the All-Union Correspondence Institute of Law (VLUZI), and in 1990 - the Moscow Law Institute. On October 6, 1993, the Moscow Law Institute received the status of the Moscow State Law Academy (MGLA). By order of the Minister of Science and Education of the Ministry of Education and Science of October 12, 2012 No. 812, the Academy was renamed on February 1, 2013 into the Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education "Moscow State Law University named after O. E. Kutafin (MGYuA)."

University History
In 1931, which is considered the founding year of the Moscow State Law Academy, the Moscow Institute of Soviet Law was established and the Central Correspondence Courses of Soviet Law (Correspondence Institute of Soviet Law) were created. In 1937, the central correspondence courses were transformed into the All-Union Legal Correspondence Institute (VUZI), which was the largest legal university in the Soviet Union. In 1940, the All-Union Correspondence Law Academy was joined to the Higher Educational Institution of Higher Education. In 1955, the evening faculty opened in Moscow, in 1987 - the full-time faculty. In 1990, the institute was transformed into the Moscow Law Institute, in 1993 it received the status of the Academy. On December 23, 2008, the Academy was named after O. E. Kutafin , who headed the educational institution for 21 years [1] .
Currently, Moscow State Law Academy has 17,000 students, 27 departments, 150,000 graduates [2] . In addition, the university employs: one academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, one corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, more than 100 doctors and 300 candidates of science, 14 honored scientists of the Russian Federation, 15 honored lawyers of the Russian Federation, 13 honorary workers of higher professional education of the Russian Federation, 12 academicians of other academies [2 ] .
In 2015, according to readers of the portal "PRAVO.RU" Moscow State Law Academy. O. E. Kutafina was the best legal university in the country [3] .
Currently, more than 15 professors and associate professors of Moscow State Law Academy are suspected of participating in the defense of dissertations containing incorrect borrowings [4] .

Branches of Moscow State Law Academy
Throughout the entire existence of the VUZI - Moscow State Law Academy, the branch network was constantly changing, new branches were created, most of which later became independent universities. Currently, as part of the MGLA are:
- Orenburg Institute (branch) ( Orenburg , Komsomolskaya St., 50), established November 20, 1941 [5] ;
- North-West Institute (branch) ( Vologda , 32 Mira St. ), established on August 1, 1968 [6] ;
- Volga-Vyatka Institute (branch) ( Kirov , Lenin St. , 99 - main building, Moskovskaya St. , 30 - legal address), was founded in 1971 [7] ;
