Geography
The area is located in the southeast 20 km from the center of Sochi between the Kudepst and Psou rivers, on which it borders with Abkhazia . In the west it borders with the Khostinsky district . The Mzymta River flows through almost the entire territory of the region, originating from the mountain lake Kardyvach , located at an altitude of 1838 m above sea level. Mzymta has many tributaries, some of them: Azmych, Dzikhra, Psluh, Laura , Beshenka , Chvizhepse , Kepsha.
On the border with Abkhazia is the highest point of the region and the whole of Greater Sochi - Mount Agepst (3256 m). To the south of the village of Krasnaya Polyana is the Aibga ridge, on the slopes of which are located ski resorts. Its highest point is Mount Stone Pillar (2509.7 m) - the highest observation deck on Krasnaya Polyana.
The territory of the district within the city limits of Sochi is 35.25 km² [2] , with subordinate towns and rural districts - 1353 km² .
History
Until 1923, the Adler volost was part of the Novorossiysk okrug , Tuapse department, Sochi district. From 1923 to 1934 there was an Adler village council as part of the Sochi region . [four]
Adler district was formed on October 16, 1934 as part of the Azov-Black Sea Territory on the basis of the abolished Sochi region after the city of Sochi was separated into an independent administrative and economic unit (city of regional subordination). Since September 13, 1937, the Adler district has been part of the Krasnodar Territory .
On February 10, 1961, the region’s region was abolished, and its territory was subordinated to the Sochi City Council with the inclusion of the resort village of Adler in the city limits of Sochi, in connection with which the Adler region was formed as part of the city of Sochi. The Razdolsky , Kudepstinsky , Moldovan , Nizhne-Shilovsky village councils and the Krasnaya Polyana village council were transferred to the administrative subordination to the Adler district of Sochi [5] . Later, the Razdolsky village council was removed from the Adler region: as of 1985, it was subordinate to the neighboring Khostinsky district of Sochi [6] .
