History
The keel of the ship was laid on April 23, 1979 . The launch took place on November 10, 1979 at the Schotzinskaya Shipyard in Szczecin , Poland , project B-493 and was transferred to the Estonian Shipping Company ( ESCO or the Estonian Shipping Company ), Tallinn , USSR May 25, 1980 . It was the first cargo-passenger ferry of the Dmitry Shostakovich series, built in Poland for Soviet operators. The “godmother” of the ship was the seamstress of the V. Klementi sewing factory [4] Elvi Koolmeister (Est. Elvi Koolmeister).
From 1980 to 2000, the ferry served the route Tallinn - Helsinki . In 1986, the ship was also used for Gorbachev’s trip to meet Reagan in Reykjavik .
In 1994, the ship was chartered by Tallink (a 45% stake in which at that time belonged to ESCO), while continuing to serve the Tallinn-Helsinki route.
In 2002, the ferry was sold to the Russian Federation and since 2003 it served the route Baltiysk ( Kaliningrad ) - St. Petersburg . On August 28, 2010 the ferry left in the direction of Murmansk , leaving the last one on September 10 in the direction of Anadyr , where it arrived on September 26, having traveled the entire Northern Sea Route in 15 days, becoming the first non-icebreaking passenger ship [5] to overcome the Northern Sea under the direction of captain Igor Enkov icebreaking track [6] . Leaving Anadyr on September 30, Georg Ots arrived on October 9, 2010 in Vladivostok , where he was to be used to accommodate guests of the APEC summit . For the modernization of the vessel for a hotel from the regional budget, 200 million rubles were allocated [7] [8] .
Since 2010, it was operated and modernized in the Russian Far East [9] . In August 2011, Vladivostok became a new home port. On April 28, 2012, an accident occurred at the shipyard, which resulted in a half-meter hole in the hull of the vessel and the blades of all the screws were damaged, however, the vessel was successfully prepared for the reception of guests at the APEC summit held on Russky Island from September 1 to September 8, 2012 [10] [11] .
The vessel belonged to the State Unitary Enterprise Gosnedvizhimost, in December 2012 it was leased to Tekhnomorin LLC, which in turn entered into a subboot boat contract ( chartering a vessel without a crew ) in January 2013 with the Chinese company, after which the ship went to China . In June 2014, the Acting Governor of Primorsky Krai Vladimir Miklushevsky said that the ship as a result of fraud was cut into scrap metal in China . The last time George Ots was spotted at the Asia Pacific Dockyard in the Chinese city of Zhoushan [8] [12] [13] .
