Lomi Samon ( English Lomi salmon , better known as lomi-lomi salmon ) - a side dish of the Pacific Islands. This is a salad of fresh tomatoes and salmon , the preparation of which the Hawaiians adopted from Western sailors. [1] . Typically, salted sliced salmon is mixed with tomatoes, Maui onion sweet onions (or green onions), and sometimes with hot chili and ground ice . The dish is always served cold. Other options include salmon, chopped tomatoes, cucumber and sweet onions.
The name lomi-lomi salmon dish got due to the cooking method. Mixing salmon with other ingredients is done manually, as if “massaging” salted fish ( lomi-lomi - in Hawaiian means “massage”).
Lomi Lomi Samon - A traditional side dish served in Hawaiian lū'aus . This is a classic part of the treat at most Hawaiian festivals and receptions and is considered a Hawaiian national dish.
