Content

History

China Airlines was founded on December 16, 1959 [2] . The authorized capital at the time of creation was 400,000 NTD . The number of employees during creation was 26 people, and the aircraft fleet consisted of one C54 aircraft and two Catalin [3] .

The company has been servicing scheduled and charter flights to mainland China since July 2008. Most flights in this market segment are operated in Shanghai , Guangzhou and Beijing .

China Airlines has been operating in Hong Kong since 1967; this is the most profitable market segment, it gives 13.3% of its 121.9 billion new Taiwan dollars (3.7 billion US dollars ) of annual revenue in 2006 with more than 140 flights per week between Taipei, Gaiyushun and Hong Kong [4] .

China Airlines became a full member of the SkyTeam alliance on September 28, 2011. Negotiations between the airline and the alliance began in 2007. [five]

Due to the dissolution of TransAsia Airways [6] , from December 1, 2016 all international and domestic TransAsia Airways routes will be transferred to China Airlines [7] .

Earlier, China Airlines did not have direct flights to Amsterdam and all flights took place through an airport in Bangkok . In addition, China Airlines has an agreement with Deutsche Bahn .

Accidents

  • On February 19, 1985, a fourth engine failed on a Boeing 747SP-09 near the west coast of the United States . As a result, the plane began to roll, and then fall into the Pacific Ocean . At an altitude of 3000 meters, the crew managed to level the plane. Then the liner landed at the San Francisco airport. All 274 passengers and crew members survived, of which 24 were injured (two seriously).
  • On April 26, 1994, an Airbus A300 crashed while landing at the Nagoya airport during a landing approach. Of the 271 people on board, only 7 survived. The cause of the disaster was a crew error.
  • On February 16, 1998, the Airbus A300 lost control and crashed into residential buildings when it went to the second round at Taiwan-Taoyuan Airport. All 196 people on board died, as well as 7 people on earth. Thus, 203 people died in the disaster. The causes of the disaster were crew error and adverse weather conditions. The largest plane crash in Taiwan.
  • On May 25, 2002, the Boeing 747-209B , 20 minutes after takeoff, fell apart in the air and crashed into the Taiwan Strait . All 206 passengers and 19 crew members were killed. The cause of the disaster was the technical malfunction of the aircraft.
