Content
DescriptionThe upper side of the bird is olive green, the lower side is slightly lighter. It has white stripes on the wings and an interrupted white eye ring . The red spot on the male's head can usually be seen only if he is agitated. The black beak is thin, the tail is short.
SpreadRubyhead is common in the coniferous forests of Alaska, Canada, New England and the western United States. In a well-camouflaged nest, which hangs on a branch, the female lays up to 12 eggs. The bird spends the cold season in the south of the USA and in Mexico. In the west, some populations are sedentary birds.
PowerThe Ruby-headed Kinglet searches for trees and in the dense bush of small insects and spiders. Berries and tree sap complete the diet.
