Biography
Born two days before the death of his father, the 7th Duke of Longville, during the siege of Amiens . Raised by his mother, Catherine Gonzaga (daughter of Louis Neversky and Henriette Klevskoy ), at the court of Henry the Great (who was his godmother). In 1617, he married his cousin, Mademoiselle de Soissons, daughter of the 1st Earl of Soissons (from the house of Condé ).
During the minority of Louis XIII, Longville participated in all civil strife, but around 1620 he reconciled with the court. During the Thirty Years War, he and the Hebriens commanded the French forces after the death of Bernhard Weimar and successfully fought in Lorraine, Alsace, on the Rhine, and in Italy.
