Origata sambazuru ( 秘傳 千 羽 鶴 折 形 or 秘傳 千 羽 鸖 折 形 Hiden sambazuru orikata , “The Secret of Folding a Thousand Cranes”) is the oldest surviving origami book. It was published in Kyoto in 1797 .

The book describes many ways to fold several cranes from one sheet of paper. To do this, a sheet of paper is cut into several squares, interconnected by corners. Cranes are made up of squares. The result is a construction of several cranes connected to each other.
