Dmitry began to study music at the age of 4. During the training at the traditional - academic music school, the formation of a novice pianist was determined not only by the works of Bach , Mozart and Tchaikovsky , but also the works of Oscar Peterson , Duke Ellington , Bill Evans , Charlie Parker .
Dmitry considers Boris Gamer, an Israeli saxophonist, whom he met in 1992 in Jerusalem , to be one of his first teachers of jazz improvisation.
Dmitry Ilugdin's debut took place in 1994, while studying at the Gnesins Music College. Yuri Saulsky - one of the teachers in arranging and composition - suggested the idea of creating an instrumental trio, which included Dmitry’s first concert in the Central House of Arts . This was followed by numerous jazz festivals, performances at concert venues in Moscow, St. Petersburg, and other cities.
Since 1997 , in addition to performing practice, Dmitry begins to write music for film and television. He is the author of music for many television programs and programs, television series: Empress Catherine the Great, Euphrosyne Album, Reprise; feature films “Elevator” (2007), “Chemist” (2010).
The styles that Dmitry preferred most are modern forms of jazz : fusion , jazz rock , funk , soul . But thanks to his teacher at the school and academy Igor Mikhailovich Bril, the works of traditional jazz trends were never excluded from the repertoire of the young performer.
In 1998, Dmitry Ilugdin, a student at the Gnesin Academy, was recommended to Alexei Kozlov , who at that time decided to assemble a new composition of the Arsenal ensemble. Partnership with the legendary saxophonist lasts more than 10 years. As part of Arsenal, Dmitry becomes a laureate of Russian and international jazz festivals, performs at prestigious world venues. He takes part in the recordings of the albums of the Arsenal ensemble.
Dmitry does not leave his collaboration with musicians of the academic direction. He takes part in recordings with the State Chamber Orchestra of Russia under the direction of Konstantin Orbelian .
In 2008 - 2009, Dmitry Ilugdin, along with his Arsenal colleague, bass player and sound producer Evgeny Sharikov, released two albums of the Vision Of Sound project. Internationally famous performers: Gary Meek (saxophone), Brandon Fields (saxophone), Frank Gambale (guitar), Jeff Richman (guitar), vocalists: Kim Nazarian, JD Walter took part in the recording of author's compositions and arrangements by Dmitry and Eugene. The discs were recorded in various studios in Europe and America with the support of the Swiss label "Tormax".
At the end of 2009, the Vision Of Sound project became an independent ensemble, where Dmitry Ilugdin and Evgeny Sharikov invited great young musicians - Pyotr Ivshin, Nikolai Vintskevich, Anna Korolev and many other prominent representatives of modern instrumental music.
In February 2010, the second album, Vision Of Sound, was released. The group begins to lead an active concert life. Dmitry is a member of many musical projects, such as “India In Blue” by Alexander Vershinin, “Sky Music” - a joint project with Oleg Kireyev, “Jump” - Anna Koroleva. Collaborates with many musicians of various styles and trends, among them - Vyacheslav Gorsky, Sergey Manukyan , Leonid Vintskevich and Nikolai Vintskevich, Felix Lahuti, Basinia Shulman.
Since 2011, the stylistic preferences of Dmitry as a musician have changed greatly and are moving to a more chamber, acoustic, and piano aesthetics. In April 2011, Ilugdin first brought to the public his new author's material in the same style and volume as a concert. The project received the name "Nikitsky Boulevard", by the name of one of the compositions, and its concert version received a lot of positive reviews from experts and just lovers of such music - as a result, in the spring of 2012 the album of the same name was released on the record label "ArtBeat music" . According to many musical experts, the Nikitsky Boulevard project can be safely attributed to modern European jazz music in terms of stylistic orientation. His concert version consisted of Ilugdin’s original compositions, and the trio’s participants were long-time colleagues and friends — bass player Alexei Zavolokin and drummer Petr Ivshin. From this moment, Dmitry Ilugdin Trio is an independent concert line-up.
Several compositions of Dmitry were included in the musical collection of Yuri Chugunov “Melodies of jazz Moscow”. As a composer, Dmitry continues to work for television and film.
