Valentino Balboni ( Italian: Valentino Balboni ) is a former chief test pilot for Lamborghini , an Italian sports car manufacturer. He retired in 2009 due to the peculiarities of Italian law, after forty years of work in the company [1] . To pay tribute to him on his retirement, Lamborghini called the latest addition to the Gallardo LP550-2 line, “Valentino Balboni” [2] [3] [4] .
Biography
Balboni began working at Lamborghini on April 21, 1968 as an apprentice mechanic [1] [5] . In the end, he personally asked the founder of the company Ferruccio Lamborghini to test new cars. Together with Bob Wallace, they became the driving test team of Lamborghini.
In 2008, Balboni was for the company both the main test pilot and the ambassador. He often performed at various Lamborghini events, for example, during the presentation of new models. In July 2009, Lamborghini announced the special edition of the Gallardo LP550-2 “Valentino Balboni”
Although Balboni officially resigned as chief test pilot, as a consultant, he signed a two-year contract with Lamborghini until 2010 , with the possibility of repeated extensions [1] .
